A tour around the house.

Bandocoot’en har grävt om i trädgården i jakt på mums.

The Bandicoot has been digging for food.

Där inne står en väldigt stor Red Cedar. Det är alltså inte en Thuja utan en Toona Ciliata. Vi vill rensa där och ställa en soffa där en dag. Det står på listan. 

In there is a very big Red Cedar. On the northern hemisphere it’s a Thuja but here it is a Toona Ciliata. We aim to clear underneath it and hopefully put a sofa there.

Sista skörden av Kumquat och nu beskär vi dem så att de inte är så stora. Lättare att sätta nät över.

Passade på att beskära Limeträden mer  och likaså Grapefruktträden.

Last harvest of Kumquat trees and then pruning them so they are smaller and easier to net. The same with the Lime trees  and Grapefruit trees.

Tittar till bananträden och har fått lite bananer där. Satte en korg runt dem. Hoppas att de mognar bättre under sommartiden än de gjorde under vintertiden då vi lyckades äta ungefär 4 pyttesmå.

Checking the bananas and we have some baby bananas now and put a net around them and hoping they will ripen better now during the summer months. The first harvest ripened over winter and did not fare well. We only got to taste 4 tiny bananas. The rest just withered away.

Kollar in Pomelon. Vi drog upp den och planterade i vår nyomgärdade “fruktodling”. Något började äta löven så vi satte ett nät runt. Nu hämtar den sig fint. 

Den närmaste med två stöd och nät runt. The nearest with chicken fencing.

Checking the Pomelo. We pulled it up from the Citrus Grove where it hated it and planted in our newly fenced in Orchard. Formerly Horse paddock. Anyway something started eating the leaves som we had to net it. Seems to be catching up nicely.

Vi plockade de sista Mulbären. Det blev rättså många men ingen smak på. Vi har inte haft särskilt mycket sol i vår. Men vi har gjort lite saft för att få omväxling i Kumquatsaftdieten.

Harvested the last Mulberries and they did not taste much. But a little squash to vary the usual Kumquat squash.

Sen tog jag en dag och planterade om en av de 4 Lilly-Pilly’sarna jag planterade nere i bushkanten. Den ena har fört en tynande tillvaro medan de andra tre vuxit sig mycket större. Så in med pytteträden i Fruktodlingen. och den verkar ta sig lite.

One day we planted 4 Lilly Pillies down by the bush line and 3 of them flourish but one is tiny so I uprooted it and planted in the Orchard. Seems to be making it. We’ll see later.

Avocadon drog vi nätet av och sågade bort den stora grenen som fallit bredvid och skuggat mycket. Vi ska spreja något så att inte hjortarna går dit och äter igen. Dock inga blommor än fast den är så stor.

The Avocado was very eaten, probably by deer. We netted it then and it has come back to life so we pulled off the net and also removed a very big branch that has blocked the sun. Will spray something on it to shy away the deer again. No blossoms on it yet though.

Sen röjde vi lite på en stig som vi brukar använda.   

Then we cleared a path we use a lot.

Sist men inte minst hugga upp lite ved som legat och skräpat. 

And at last chopping some wood.

Och det var den dagen det.

And that was that day.

Sen blev det fönsterputsning och röjning på vår väg igenom bushen.

After that we did some window cleaning and clearing along the bush road aso.

Vi tog en dag ledigt för 10 årsdagen men före dess:

Ett gammalt mjölktråg tror vi. Det var fyllt med jord och Aloe och stod på en träställning som började kollapsa mer och mer. Vi rev eländet och baxade upp det mot en plätt som vi gjorde några år sedan. Tråget var fyllt med regnvatten och avloppen av täppta så vi fixade det och fyllde igen med jord och satte tillbaks några Aloe och i mitten planterade vi några kryprosor som vi har i en del av gräsmattan men som aldrig kommer till sin rätt.

Får ta kort senare när allting har tagit sig och ser ut som någonting.

An old milk trough, we think. It was filled with soil and Aloe and stood on a wooden stand that began to collapse more and more. We tore up the misery and backed it up against a small flat part we made a few years ago. The trough was filled with rainwater and the drains were clogged so we fixed it and filled it back with soil and put back some Aloes and in the middle we planted some creeping roses that we have in part of the lawn but never came into their own.

Will take pictures later when everything is growing back and looks like something.

Har dragit nya stängsel med både gammalt och nytt så att korna ska hålla sig borta från fruktträd och trädgård. Håll tummarna. Gott om plats för fordonen att backa ut också.

Have put up new fences with both old and new stuff so that the cows will stay away from the fruit trees and garden. Fingers crossed. Plenty of room for the vehicles to back out too.

Bort med den gamla taggtråden och nu är det fritt fram nästan. Stolparna ska bort också men huvudsaken är taggtråden. Å så skönt.

Gone with the old barbed wire and now it’s almost free. The posts must also be removed but the main thing is the barbed wire. Oh so nice.

Morning :

Insekter in the toilet fan / fläkten.

Fåglarna äter dem innan mogna.

Last Kumquats. Let the birds have it. Plocka sista kumquats och fåglarna får ta resten.

Allt före lunch och sen blev det för varmt.

Before lunch and then tooo hot.

going to the grocery, 2 hrs and on the way. En vanlig dag på väg till affären.

Didn’t think this would happen but had to go home and change clothes and get the chainsaw. So took 3 hrs to get into town.

Tog 3 timmar pga trädet. Fick åka hem och byta kläder och hämta motorsågen. Vi trodde inte att något träd skulle ligga över vägen denna gång. Men det skiter sig alltid.

Crack Macadamias, roast them. Dry dill for future (already lots in the freezer). Making wine from Yellow Guavas.

Sowing, planting and prepping veg’s. Raking and mowing aroound gardens. Chasing cows now and then. Mostly nighttime. Gathering their cowpats. 

Knäck macadamnötter och rosta dem. Torka dill för framtiden (redan massor i frysen). Göra vin från gula guavafrukt.

Sår, planterar och förbereder för mer grönsaker. Kratta och klippa runt gårdar. Jagar kor då och då. Mest nattetid. Samlar deras kokackor.

En dag om våren.

One spring day starts with breakfast by the fire. The mornings are still very cold. 3 -6 degrees outside and around 10-12 in the living room.

Frukost framför elden. Det är fortfarande kallt om morgnarna.

Today’s chores.

Raking the immediate garden. Late winter early spring always brings some storms with lots of leaves. It’s like autumn on the northern parts of the north side of the globe. Våren är som hösten uppe i norra halvklotet. Efter ett par stormar är det dags att kratta.

…… and building a gate for the newly enclosed Horse paddock (we named it horse paddock a long time ago but will probably rename it to orchard something. Bygger en grind till Hästhagen som vi nyligen satte nytt staket runt. Vi gav den namnet i början någon gång men kommer nog snart att ge hagen ett nytt namn som har med frukt att göra.

Nämen se, vi har rivit ställningen till Aloetråget. Den var rejält rutten och höll på att segna ner. Avsikt att plantera lite blommor bland Aloe’rna. Vi took down the rotting wooden stand under the Aloe trough and placed it here. Intention is to plant some nice flowers in the middle at some point.

Blev inte färdig med krattandet. Phew, more raking tomorrow.

But we managed to pump water and here are the filters. Vattenfilter på tork efter att vi pumpat vatten till tanken.

Grinden färdig och på plats men inte riktigt färdigmonterad på stolparna än. Vi behövde nya stolpar. The gate is finished and in place but still needs a bit more work.

Där nere i Hästhagen ska det ske. Nu när staketen är uppsatta igen. Hoppas att inga kor får för sig att kränga sig in. Nära till vatten så att man inte behöver vattna!

Dags igen!

No more table saw Dear!!! -So lucky!!!

We stayed a resort to celebrate M; birthday. We forgot his choco prezzie at home – too bad but he got that one later. Anyway, at the hotel the dishwasher did not work. The fixer guy turned up and – rats were the culprit. Even in town on the third floor.

Did some harvesting. It’s been a while since the cows wreaked havoc in the patches and now we have a good fence all around them and the composting. Cute with the Turnips matching my working shirt.

Found Wombat berries in the bush. Sowed and now wait maybe a month. They are edible but well if nothing else the animals allegedly like them a lot.

Hittade Wombatbär i bushen och tog hem. Sådde och kan ta upp till en månad innan de kommer upp så ja om inte annat så ska djuren gilla dessa bär. Tänker inte plantera bland grönsakerna.

Last but not least we began straightening and fixing the fencing by the creek path. It was damaged a lot during the fires. We call it the Horse paddock. The neighbours cows just love sleeping and eating there. We have decided to fence it in better so that we can plant native and other trees there. We have already measures where 6 of our partly native trees will be planted and soon we will add the Pomelo tree to them.

Hagen behövde ett rejält upplyft efter eldarna och vi har använt mestadels sådant som redan fanns på gården. Sen blir det 7 träd nedgrävda samt i framtiden fler och en sittgrupp för fika.

Most of the material we already have in the yards. Soon it will rain and then we will plant 7 trees. If this works well there will be more in the future and a nice little space for sitting.

Idag for vi runt och samlade kokackor och la delvis vid trädmarkeringarna och resten vid komposten att blanda ner.

Today we divided and went around picking up cowpats and gathered in one of the compost parts and some by the intended tree planting spots.
