Got the mower back. But then it rained and rained and the grass never dried up but it grew and grew and so did the weeds. Now it has been dry a couple of days so we have started raking fallen leaves and mowing. Doing some clearing too. A piece of corrugated roofing was fastened to one of the fences. Why? Who knows. We have stopped asking why.  We are just glad there are some fruit trees. Took off another piece of metal stuff. A bit of squared fencing was tied onto the ordinary fence by the grapes. Starting to look nice again.

So there were no Lilly Pilly this year. A handful. But after we took down the giagantic Liquid Ambar that kept the house moist and in shade and shaded a lot of trees so who knew what they were, They have come out and shown their face. One is an orange tree, one is a Banksia, now with 9 flowers in different stages, one is a Yellow guava!, one looks like a white Lilly Pilly but has not ripened. We have of course fed them also but sunshine is very important.

Well we have a l o t of yellow guavas this year. They will end up as jelly and cordial. We ran out of sugar so the freezer is full of chopped up guavas now.

The new nutseason has started and we are picking some nuts every day. The Pecans are a bit bigger than last year. We have fed it a bit more this year so we´ll se next year if it was right. The Kumquats are coming nicely allthough we have not done anything for them. The big citrus grove is still on the to do list. The lemons are ripening but the rest have some time to go.

So the toilet has had to wait a bi. But we will get that done soon. We had to build a rickety temporary shower meanwhile. The creek has become too cold.

Autumn has set in. Time to chop wood too. There is always a lot of things to do.

Vi plockar lite nya nötter varje dag nu. Pecannötterna är lite större än förra året. Jag matade dem med gräsklipp. Få sen nästa år då jag denna gång matat dem med både kompost och komocka.

Vi har börjat skriva ihop lite historia om vårt hus.

Kylen och frysen börjar tömmas på mat. Frysen börjar fyllas av gul Guava. Vi har slut på sockret. Dags att handla snart.

Decided that the mice come into the bedroom under the door. We rose the threshold. Did some more spackling and did some sanding on the old filler. Two more mice in the morning.

Today we made deep fried squash. One of our own and one store bought. For snack we had Blueberries from Greg and Donna´s Blueberry Grove.

The sun sets behind the mountains a bit before 4 pm. Then it gets a bit colder but it does not get dark until 6 -ish.

20160502 Monday. Woke up. No mice. Great. We have covered the corner along the wall in the bedroom toward the little veranda. We suspect some mice come in that way. We can hear them crawl there and not get in. We can almost hear them swear too. Brekkie and internet. Checked up how to make Guava cordial. Did the dishes. Mick cut up and cooked Guava cordial but with less sugar than suggested. It came out still slightly sweet. Made rice with Thai prawn sauce for lunch. Very good. Raked and weeded the square with patch no 1. Mick has taken down the fence that was around it on the inside of the garden. Put all the weeds on a part where we are trying to even out the ground. It´s very own compost sort of. Harvested two fat yellow squashes, the third one rotted before it grew. But the Coriander/Cilantro The temporary shower we have built stood the rain and we noted that it is probably better to have a roof over the little burners chimney so we built one and also rose the battery a bit above the floor and gave it a roof too. The whole floor of the veranda i leaning in all direction so … We also spackled inside the new bathroom with wood filler. Carried up the floor fibro sheets to dry off on the veranda from the rain. We now have a shower now and then. Good showers not just some teasing drops. Mick picked a pocket full of pecan nuts! They are a bit bigger than last year. I have given them grass cuttings around the root area. A couple of days ago I gave them good compost. Next time it´s time to feed them I hope to be able to give them some good concoction. Yesterday I doled out a very good nourishing soup to the citruses: cow dung, coffee grinds, compost, grass cuttings all diluted with some water. We only have creek water so no man maid components. We thawed some chicken with Brie we made another day and had with rice and broccoli. Yum! Had a a communal shower to see if we could both fit in it and we did. It´ll be great when the permanent shower is done. Sat down to watch some borrowed stuff from the library and bam! Mouse trap in bedroom went. Out with it. Then after a little while another sound and mouse trap in the kitchen went off. Out with it and whoa the first mouse was already gone. Kooka is getting fat. Starting to call it Fatso. A cuppa´and some Sultanas to end the day.

20160502 måndag. Vaknade. Inga möss. Bra. Vi har täckt hörnet i sovrummet längs väggen mot den lilla verandan. Vi misstänker att vissa möss kommer in på det sättet. Vi kan höra dem krypa där och inte komma in. Vi kan nästan höra dem svära också. Frukka och internet. Kollade upp hur man gör Guava saft. Diskade. Mick skar upp och gjorde Guava saft men med mindre socker än vad det stod i receptet. Den blev fortfarande något söt. Gjorde ris med thailändsk räksås till lunch. Väldigt gott. Rakade och rensade rutan med grönsaksland nr. 1. Mick har tagit ner stängslet som var runt den på insidan av trädgården. Satt alla ogräs på en del där vi försöker att jämna ut marken. Försöker bilda den av kompost liksom. Den tillfälliga duschen som vi har byggt stod regnet under natten och vi noterade att det förmodligen är bättre att ha ett tak över den lilla brännarskorstenen så vi byggde en och även höjde batteriet en bit ovanför golvet och gav den ett tak. Hela verandans golv i lutar i alla riktningar så … Vi spacklade inne i nya badrummet. Lyfte upp golvfibroskivan för att torka på verandan från regnet. Vi har nu en skur då och då. Bra skurar inte bara några retsamma droppar. Mick plockade en ficka full av pekannötter! De är lite större än förra året. Jag har gett dem gräsklipp runt rotområdet. För ett par dagar sedan jag gav dem bra kompost. Nästa gång det är dags att mata dem hoppas jag kunna ge dem en bra blandning. I går delade jag ut en mycket bra närande soppa till citrusträden: kokacka, kaffesump, kompost, gräsklipp allt utspätt med lite vatten. Vi har bara bäckvatten. Vi tinade en kyckling med Brie vi gjort en annan dag och hade med ris och broccoli. Yum! Hade en en gemensam dusch för att se om vi båda kunde få plats i duschen och vi gjorde. Det blir bra när den permanenta duschen är klar. Satte oss ner för att titta på några lånade dvd från biblioteket och bam! Musfällan i sovrummet gick. Ut med den. Sedan efter ett tag ett annat ljud och musfällan i köket gick. Ut med det och oj den första musen var redan borta. Kookan blir fet. Börjar att kalla det Tjockis. En kopp te och några sultanarussin fick avsluta dagen.

It´s getting cold. Jen thought, when moving here, that the warm season would be much longer. Well, just get used to it!

Now it´s crunch time for the experiment on which veggies really dooo make it through winter and frost. Maybe the frost will not set inside the net house (no2) or even patch 3 since it´s so close to the trees.

Started to digging through patch 1 again since things popped up there without us caring. Spinach!!! The yam seemed to like it and kept some roots and started growing again. Also maybe we´ll plant Rhubarb there. Rhubarb usually dies down during the colder months so no sun should be needed.

We are still working on the bathroom. There is so much measuring and fintuning just to get the pieces together we only get one or two fibro´s up per day. One left. After that it´s windows, flooring, plumbing aso.

Should really write down some kind of summary over the last one and a half years or maybe wait until two years… hmm.

Det är kallnar. Jen tänkte, när du flyttar här, att den varma årstiden skulle vara mycket längre. Tja, bara vänja sig vid att det!

Nu är det  tid för experimentet att se vilka plantor som klarar det genom vintern och frost. Kanske frosten inte kommer att ställa i nät huset (nr2) eller till och med inte i patch 3 eftersom det är så nära till träden.
Började gräva igenom första landet en gång eftersom saker dök upp där utan vår omsorg. Spenat!!! Yams!!  verkade gilla det och höll några rötter och började växa igen. Också kanske vi planterar Rabarber där. Rabarber dör oftast ner under de kallare månaderna så ingen sol skulle behövas.

Vi arbetar fortfarande på badrummet. Det finns så mycket mätning och finjustering bara för att få ihop bitarna vi bara få en eller två fibro’s upp per dag. En kvar. Efter det det är fönster, golv, VVS osv.

Borde kanske skriva ner någon form av sammandrag över de senaste ett och ett halvt år eller kanske vänta tills två år … hmm.

Two utes drove up and parked outside our garden. It was Chris and Rhonda, their daughter and her boyfriend. Chris had grown up in our house. We walked around and talked about when and where and his family. His wife was also a local. They were very nice and I want them to come back so that I can write down everything they have to tel about the house.

He told us about the creek and this is gave us something to think about. The creek has never dried up but it sure has dried to just leave a litle brook. When they lived here they had two big rainwater tanks for occasions like when the creek almost dries out. He laughed and said it was not a big problem since they never washed. But still!

When he lived here there were barely any trees. They had a pig pen down by the creek and a veggie patch somwhere. There was a dairy up behind where the roof project is and he went to school across the creek. There was no store there at his time though and he is Mick´s age.

We had read that kids of around 10 had to take the pigs to Kemp and that journey took 5 -7 days. What did they do with dingoes and such? Chris said there were pig pens all the way to Kemp where the kids could put them up for the night and not worry. Pigs were also good and staid together not running away. Then we went on to talk about certain worse traits with pigs as their ability to eat bone and by the way let´s not go there.

Went to Kempsey to buy fibro wall sheets to the dunny. Had to rent a trailer. Trailer is free if you return it the same day. So.. 2 hrs there, 2 hours back, empty load, quick lunch. 2 hrs back to Bunnings in Kemp and 2 hrs home again.

At Bunnings we again met the guy who´s aunt and a brother lived here. He´s the guy who made the pic´s on the walls.. On an older map the meadow is called after the aunt´s name. Neat meeting some people! The other guy read our address and wondered if we had seen any yeowies or drop bears yeat. – Oh well.

On the way home we had brought the dung bucket and filled it with cow poo. Good for the compost.

Åkte till Kempsey för att köpa fibro väggskivor till toan. Var tvungen att hyra en släpvagn. Det är gratis om man återlämnar den samma dag. Så .. 2 timmar dit, 2 timmar tillbaka, tömma lasten, snabb lunch. 2 timmar tillbaka till Bunnings i Kemp och 2 timmar hem igen.

På Bunnings träffade vi igen killen vars moster och en bror bodde här. Han är killen som ritade på väggarna .. På en äldre karta är ängen/hagen utaför här uppkallad efter mostern. Kul att möta vissa människor!

Den andra killen läste vår adress och undrade om vi hade sett några “yeowies” eller “drop bears”!  – Jaja.

På vägen vi hem hade tagit dyng-hinken med oss och fyllde den med kobajs. Bra för komposten.

Yesterday we saw some wallaby poop in patch 3. Maybe it was there all ready and we did not notice. Maybe someone jumped the fence and left some calling cards. So we dug down all of them to check if the wallabies will jump the fence.

Next day… today that is we had a look. Jen had taken a piece off of the yam and replanted in patch three. Today all it´s leaves were gone. Off the face of the earth. Not a trace! Who was it? Rats, the possum or birds?

Vi såg lite wallabybajs i nya grönsakslandet och grävde ner dem för vi var ine säkra på om wallaby´sarna hade hoppat in över staketet eller gjort det innan staketet kom upp. Imorse fanns inget bajs meeeeen hade planterat en bit av jamsen i det nya grönsakslandet också. Någon hade ätit rubb och stubb. Bara skaften kvar! Vem kan det vara? Råttor? Pungräven? Fåglar?
